HTS-110 Announces the Launch of a New 2.0 T Projected Field HTS Magnet

Lower Hutt, New Zealand – 5 April 2024 – HTS-110, a leader in the field of high-temperature superconducting (HTS) magnet technology, is proud to announce the launch of its innovative 2T Projected Field 2G HTS Magnet. This cutting-edge model sets a new benchmark for efficiency, performance, and user accessibility in the realm of superconducting magnets, demonstrating HTS-110’s ongoing commitment to pushing the boundaries of technology.

Unprecedented efficiency and self-contained operation

“The PF-2G magnet employs the latest HTS conductor technology to radically decrease the cooling required for operation of the superconducting coils, enabling the use of a miniature self-contained cryocooler. Elimination of the external compressor for the cryocooler, with associated helium flex-lines, is a notable advancement from the PF-1G model.”

Donald Pooke, April 2024.

This enhancement not only simplifies the operational setup but also significantly reduces the system’s overall footprint and power consumption, highlighting the PF-2G’s exceptional efficiency. Operating on less than 400W from a standard single-phase electric outlet, the PF-2G model dramatically lowers the barriers to superconducting magnet utilization in both research and commercial environments.

A comparative look at the PF-1G and PF-2G models

The PF-2G’s introduction marks a significant leap forward from its predecessor, the PF-1G model. While the PF-1G is renowned for its peak field of 2.6 T at 1 mm above the surface, making it ideal for the highest-field applications, the PF-2G model excels in offering a more versatile solution for a wider range of applications. Achieving a field strength of over 2.0 T at 2 mm above the surface, the PF-2G combines robust performance with a substantial reduction in mass—from 55 kg (excluding compressor) to just 15 kg total— thereby enhancing its appeal for benchtop applications.

This evolutionary step signifies HTS-110’s dedication to providing solutions that are not only powerful but also more accessible and environmentally friendly. The PF-2G model is particularly suited for scenarios where a balance between field strength, operational efficiency, and ease of use is paramount. Both models provide complete hemispherical access to the sample zone, giving unrivalled flexibility for access of probes to the sample under study.
